What is chiropractic?

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Headaches

Where does the pain in the head come from? The ache in the head usually does not come from the brain but from the veins and arteries inside the brain and skull, membranes that cover the brain and cranial nerves. When these are irritated, compressed or inflamed the headache is most likely to result.

The Medical treatment

Depends on what is the cause of it. A headache coming from visual problems can be resolved by getting your eyes checked and corrected. Most commonly headaches are treated with powerful painkillers. As the painkillers can give convenient relief from headache, but long term use can have side effects. Worse, they do not correct the underlying cause of the headache. Please remember- the pain might be gone, but the root of the problem that caused is still there!

The Chiropractic Approach

Chiropractors are the only proffesionals who are trained to analyze and correct the vertebral subluxation complex. A cause of the headache can be from spinal bones in the neck that are not supporting your head properly. They are not moving right. This can affect nerves, muscles and blood supply to your head. Chiropractic doctor uses special tests, x-rays and palpation to locate areas of the spine that are not moving properly. They notice spinal curves, look at your posture and your ability to turn and bend. These and many other examination can help to determine if you are likely to benefit from chiropractic care.

Your care will consist of schedule of chiropractic adjustments. These help to normalize spinal function, help to restore essential spinal curves, improve circulation and reduce nerve irritation. Many chiropractic patients report fewer and less severe headaches while under chiropractic care. While chiropractic does not claim to be a cure for headaches, rather it focuses on removing the root of the problem where many of the headaches start – the vertebral subluxation complex. When free from subluxation your body works more efficiently to use its natural energies to heal itself.

How long will it take?

Some people enjoy results quickly. Others notice a slow decline in their symptoms after several weeks or longer of chiropractic care. It is impossible to predict. If you have had chronic headaches for many years, it can take time to get you back to balanced, pain free state, be patient.

If you suffer from headaches, best you can do for yourself is to make sure your spine is healthy and visit a chiropractic doctor!

What causes neck pain?

Many everyday things can cause a neck pain like working too long on the computer, falling a sleep on the sofa or long trips on an airplane or a car.

Your neck is the most vulnerable part of your spine. It must allow the free flow of nerve impulses to the head, face, hands and the whole body. Cervical spine (neck) is made up of 7 interlocking bones. Most of the pain sensitive nerves are located in the facet joints of the vertebra. These joints allow you to move your head back and forth and side to side. If those joints become fixated (subluxated) the normal motion and function of the neck is disturbed resulting in the neck pain. Often accompanied with tight muscles, limited motion of the neck.

More difficult is to correct a problem that has been neglected for years. Often there are degenerative changes. Like reversed cervical curve, bone spurs, disc thinning and other forms of spinal decay.

Neck pain is a sign of something not being quite right, simply ignoring it will not be a solution.

Properly educated chiropractic doctor knows how to restore the normal motion of the neck.

Where does the pain in the back come from?

The nerve-rich facet joints on the back side of each spinal bone are common cause of back pain. If those joints are not moving right, it can be a cause of the painful symptoms. The discs between spinal bones can be a source of back pain too. These rings of fibrous tissues act as spacers, connectors and ‘shock absorbers’ for the spine to resist the constant force i.e gravity. Trauma can cause the soft, pulpy material in the middle to bulge or herniate, causing pressure on sensitive nearby nerves.

About 85% of population will expereince disabling low back pain at least once during their life time! Thats sounds like almost all of us.

Medical treatment and surgery, do they help?

The standard medical approach to back pain varies depending on the severity of the condition. Muscle relaxers and physical therapy are commonly used if the problem does not improve then surgery, the most drastic measure, might be performed. Laminectomy cuts off the offending facet joints. A spinal fusion cuts out the disc tissue and immobilizes the joint. Many people who have had back surgery report that their symptoms and problems return in few years and many return to the operating table. In some cases the surgery does not make a big difference, in some cases it gives a long-term relief.

More and more people are choosing chiropractic care first. Specific chiropractic adjustments can help to improve spinal function.

The Chiropractic approach

Chiropractic has helped millions of people with lower back problems, often saving them from pain, drugs and surgery. Chiropractors goal is to help your spine to become more free, stronger and healthier by correcting vertebral subluxation. Often a person can get a lot of help even when the problems have grown to be big. Visiting a chiropractor can make a big difference on your journey through Life.
